New Chartered Surveyors Western Regional Chairman reminds homeowners of May 1st Property Tax Valuation Date
Today, the new Chairman of the Western Regional branch of the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI), has reminded homeowners that they to declare the value of their home on May 1st for the Local Property Tax (LPT).
Gerard O’Toole, who was elected Chairman of Western Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland Branch at the A.G.M of the Society on April 24th said that it was important that homeowners were fully aware of their obligations and responsibilities under the new Local Property Tax legislation.
“Revenue has stated that the valuation date for homes is May 1st and I would encourage homeowners to ensure that their property tax valuation is up to date. It is also important to remember that the figure provided by Revenue on the Local Property Tax Return is only an estimate and homeowners should use all the available tools online to ensure the valuation is correct”.
Mr. O’Toole, also reminded homeowners that the first date for filing paper returns to Revenue is May 7th and electronically is May 28th.
“It is important the homeowners get it right from the outset as the valuation will be current for 3 years. They should also remember that the tax due for 2013 is only half of the amount due in 2014 and our advice is to budget accordingly”.
